Pops*Trips

I’m an international jet setter, researcher and blogger, fascinated not only by the destinations, but by the airports, airlines and fellow travellers I encounter along the way.

  • Hello from Taipei’s Taoyuan Airport!

It’s 5pm and my flight is delayed by two hours; but, being Air China, that was hardly a surprise… As anyone who regularly reads my blog is no doubt aware, Air China are my least favourite airline with their terrible food, terrible lounges, abysmal punctuality, and alarming lack of online check in/self check machine capability. They really are useless. If it weren’t for the fact that the my company requires me to fly with them on certain routes, I would never use them again. Anyway. I digress!

I arrived at the lovely Novotel in Taipei at 6pm last night. For some reason, not only was I upgraded to a top floor executive room, but also given access to the premium lounge with free cocktails and canapés and greeted personally by the hotel manager who wanted to thank me for patronising the hotel once again and to implore me to holler if there was anything at all that would improve my stay. Very nice, but a little strange. Stranger still was the enormous panda waiting to greet me in my room.

I was so exhausted after 32 hours of travelling that it was all I could do to stagger into the shower and wash off all that travel grime. After a shower, I did perk up for a little while, and made the most of the premium lounge - lovely canapés and a glass of red wine - before staggering to bed, where I slept soundly for fourteen blissful hours. I don’t think that I have ever slept for fourteen hours! Then again, it isn’t often that I’m quite so tired…

Now, I’ve been to work, eaten my own body weight in gyoza and steamed buns, and I’m relaxing in the lounge before my flight. Let’s see - only another 2.5 hours!

    Ta-ra for now…
